Course Brief

Do you reflect on your lived experience? Do you want to share these experiences and what you have learnt with family and friends?  

Writing Life will help you to bring out your memories and put them on the page. Structured lessons to guide you in capturing and sharing your valuable memories and anecdotes from your life and family history

What you will learn

  • how to write as if you were talking to a friend 

  • how to find the meaning in something as simple as a cup of tea 

  • how to weave your story with current events, of the time you are writing and of now 

  • how to bring all your senses into play as you write 

  • how to use fiction techniques to enliven your writing 

  • coping techniques for writing emotional stories 

  • ethical and legal issues that arise when writing about real people and events 

What to bring

  • A notebook and pen. 

  • Additional reading material will be provided by the tutor.  

Meet your tutor

Caroline Carruthers

Caroline Carruthers is a prize-winning author of flash fiction. She writes short stories and the occasional poem but is focused on memoir and personal essays now.  

As the coordinator of Boroondara Writers she facilitates writing workshops, edits and produces members’ anthologies and writes a monthly newsletter of useful information for writers.
